THE CHANNEL SWIM - CHAN(N)EL NO 6

The Story So Far

The story so far

One cold December afternoon, over a cup of tea, (yes not a bottle of wine) the mad idea was conceived. I blame Clare's husband Keith, who as an Ironman, runs, swims and cycles hundreds of miles with ease. He has done the Arch to Arc (London to Paris) in a relay team, run to Dover, swum to Calais and then just a short hop, cycled to Paris! 'YOU CAN DO IT' he said. Clare's eyes widened and before we knew it anyone around had signed on the dotted line. (funnily enough we will omit the running and cycling bit).

Tell a Friend

THE TASK - Swim fast for 22 miles from Dover to Calais. As a team of 6, 1 hour on then 5 hours rest and so on until some French rocks are spied. (each person will have to swim at least 3 times). Encounter rather large ferries, basking sharks, jellyfish, other delightful foreign objects lurking and suffer seasickness. Then if successful spend 3 hours coming back on the pilot boat. What NOT allowed to land? - Oh no then we'd be illegal immigrants - but all I want is some champagne and French cheese, I say.  Surely we deserve it?

DATE - July 25th - 31st 2009

(no it's not going to take 6 days, this is our slot and we will go when the tides and weather are favourable)

Many thanks to our coach - Sue Barney who has endured our trials and tribulations and no doubt had a laugh/despaired at us on the way.

THE CHARITY - CHASE CHILDRENS HOSPICE IN GUILDFORD - helps families with children who have life-limiting illnesses. (www.chasecare.org.uk)

That's the story so far……

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT

THE CHAN(N)EL NO 6 CREW

"I'm really pleased to be raising money for CHASE. They provided invaluable support to close friends of mine whose son Andrew sadly died just before his 7th Birthday. Please help support families in situations like this and give as generously as you can."
